Description
A full-grain leather tote, vegetable-tanned at Curtumes Alcanena and constructed in a small workshop outside Porto. Unlined, no hardware, no logo. The leather starts a shade lighter than it ends; by year three, your tote will be a different color than the day you bought it. That's the point.
Vegetable tanning uses tree bark instead of chrome salts. It takes longer (three weeks instead of one day), produces a stiffer hide that softens with use, and the leather develops a patina that chrome-tanned leather cannot.
- Full-grain Italian calfskin, vegetable-tanned at Curtumes Alcanena
- Unlined; raw inner seam visible by design
- Two flat handles, 9-inch drop (clears a shoulder over a coat)
- No hardware, no zipper, no closure (the tote is open by design)
- 14 inches tall, 16 inches wide, 5 inches deep
- Edges hand-painted, not folded
Patina is a feature; scratches are not damage. A leather conditioner once a year is the only maintenance.
